Daily Wound Care
- With a soft cloth or gauze, soak the affected area for 5-10 minutes, 2 times a day, with vinegar water (mix 1 tbsp of white vinegar with 1 pint of warm water).
- After each soak, apply Vaseline petroleum jelly (not an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin©) and bandage. Continue this until the area heals and there is no more open sore, scab, or crust.
If You Have Stitches
- If your biopsy required stitches, these can be removed at home or in our office after the number of days recommended by your doctor.
- Please let us know if you have trouble removing your stitches. They must be removed within 2 weeks, but we typically recommend removal after 7-10 days.
Normal Healing vs. Signs of Infection
- It is normal for the biopsy site to be a little red and have some straw-colored drainage. Some discomfort at the site is also normal.
- Please call our office if your site becomes increasingly tender, red, or warm to the touch; if the site has purulent drainage; or if you are noticing red streaking from the biopsy site. These may be signs of an infection.
